Adaptable School Feeding Equipment

It’s hard to believe we’re already almost three weeks into 2021, especially because it still feels a lot like 2020. If you’re in school foodservice, we sincerely thank you for your never-ending commitment to feeding kids and families in good times and bad. And if you’re still searching for safe solutions to get you through the school year that you’ll be able to use later, you’re not alone.

We’ve worked with schools in our region and partners across the country to compile an overview of the systems that have best served schools and communities throughout the pandemic while assuring continued usefulness into the future. For ideas that have worked for school districts like yours, read on.

96 Meals Setup

Wherever you serve—classroom, cafeteria, or curbside—this 96-meal set-up recently implemented by multiple school districts in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana, uses a combination of six insulated Cambro GoBags to help you keep hot meals hot and two insulated Cam GoBoxes to keep milk cold, all in one mobile cart.

Here’s how it works:

Two Cambro GoBags (GBP518110) fit across each of the top three shelves of a Camshelving® Premium Series Mobile Unit (CPMU214867V4480). Each front-loading insulated GoBag holds sixteen 9" x 9" takeout containers, four high, two across, and two deep. We recommend using O2GO® Reusable Clamshell Containers by OZZI® to reduce waste and cost. A bag support insert (DRC2020180) fits snugly across the bottom of each bag to keep containers in place.

Two GoBoxes for Milk (EPPMBWSTSW110) fit across the bottom shelf of the Camshelving Mobile Unit. Each lightweight GoBox keeps up to 70 single-serve milk cartons safely chilled for 4+ hours.

The beauty of this solution is that it’s economical and modular, which means every component can be used separately for a variety of purposes into the future.

Pro Cart Ultra®

With the ability to safely hold and transport hot and cold foods in a single insulated cart at the same time, the Cambro Pro Cart Ultra Model PCUHC is one-of-a-kind. It quickly became a popular choice for Breakfast in the Classroom programs prior to the pandemic because it could safely hold hot menu items such as breakfast sandwiches in the top compartment while simultaneously holding cold items such as milk, yogurt, and fruit in the lower compartment.

Now, with many districts serving multiple meals in the classroom, the Pro Cart Ultra offers a proven way to safely serve hot and cold foods outside of the cafeteria any time of day.

Each Pro Cart Ultra holds up to 120 takeout style containers (9" x 9" x 2 ½"), 60 per compartment. Don’t need hot and cold? An all-hot model PCUHH with two heated compartments, all-cold model PCUCC with two cold compartments, non-electric model PCUPP for use with hot or cold foods, and models with electric and non-electric compartment combinations help you match your menu and serving needs to just the right cart.

The Pro Cart Ultra is ideal for classroom feeding and curbside meal or grocery bag pick-up now, and it’s a sure bet to serve you well into the future, whether for holding in the kitchen, transport from kitchen to cafeteria or satellite locations, or BIC programs. Adjustable and removable rails enable it to hold anything from bulk or pre-packaged foods in 1826 sheet pans, food pans, or large pizza boxes.

Mobile Flex Station

Originally developed for grab ‘n go snacks and breakfast items, the Mobile Flex Station by Cambro has lived up to its name as a flexible staging, organizing, storing, transport, and serving platform. With five different pre-packaged configurations, Mobile Flex Stations can be accessorized with Cambro food pans, food boxes, GoBags, and GoBoxes to maximize capacity and meet changing needs. Shelf plates are embedded with antimicrobial Camguard and can be sanitized in a commercial dishwasher.

Here are a few specific ways the immensely popular Flex Station has been used around the US:

        • Staging for curbside shelf stable grocery bag pickup
        • Grab ‘n go or second chance breakfast
        • Snacks between classes
        • Mobile shelving
        • Organizing kitchen tools and supplies
        • Ware drying

Vending Cart

Mobile vending carts and kiosks are a lot more flexible than meets the eye. In “normal” times, they are a wonderful way to increase participation in grab ‘n go breakfast and lunch programs and increase snack program revenues, which Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento, California, can attest to. Their Camcruiser Cart, shown here, tripled breakfast program participation!

With built-in sneeze guards and barriers, and optional height extender accessories for older students, parents, and staff, the new Cambro Vending Cart is well equipped with safety and security features that come in handy as we work our way through the pandemic.

Designed for mobility and high capacity with spacious compartments for insulated carriers and supplies, this upbeat cart has everything you need to transport meals and snacks anywhere on campus both now and later.

We can help you build on what you have, assess options, and ensure all the key components fit together to keep your program running smoothly for the rest of the school year and beyond. Contact us. We are here for you!
