Supplemental Handwash Stations for Indoors and Out

Choosing the Right Handwashing Station for the Job

From CDC and healthcare professional guidance to how-to videos like Gloria Gaynor’s pandemic version of her classic I Will Survive, we have all been trained that handwashing is more critical than ever during this unprecedented time. Not only does it protect each of us and those with whom we interact, but clearly visible and accessible handwashing stations now provide a sense of reassurance to employees and customers alike. Supplemental handwash stations come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and levels of portability. Where the station will be used, access to electricity, water capacity, and available space are important factors to consider when it comes to choosing the best one for the job.

Handwashing for Curbside, Drive-Through, or Outdoor Events

It’s tempting to resort to hand sanitizer when working outdoors, but soap and warm water have been proven more effective because they physically remove germs from hands. At locations where running water and electricity aren’t accessible, Cambro’s Handwash Accessory is a great choice. The system starts with an insulated Camtainer. If you you’ve used one for beverages, you know that it keeps them hot for hours. It does the same for water, which is a huge plus for handwashing. The Cambro Handwash Accessory, which holds soap and paper towels, secures to the top of the Camtainer. A pail to catch the wastewater completes the system to create a non-electric, portable solution for handwashing that can be used anywhere.

Handwashing for Patios, Courtyards, Interior Halls, and Corridors

When you have access to electricity, but not running water, both FWE and Cambro offer effective and portable hand sinks.

FWE's portable hand sink features a stainless-steel cabinet body with locking door, a 5-gallon freshwater tank, and a 7-gallon soiled water tank to hold runoff and drainage. A built-in water heater quickly warms water for dispensing when needed. The 5" casters enable smooth maneuvering from one location to another, while the box marine top edge helps prevent spills, drips, and splashes when on the move or in close quarters. A 10' cord provides plenty of length to connect to electricity, and a convenient cord wrap keeps it safely out of the way during transport and storage. With a compact 23" x 24" footprint, the FWE HS-24 is a top pick for smaller spaces.

If you need greater water capacity, your handwash station will be spending time outside, or you’re looking to add a cheerful pop of color, the Cambro Hand Sink Cart features a durable, all-weather polyethylene housing and is available in a variety of colors. Generously sized 6" casters make it easy to transport, while the smooth surfaces make it equally easy to keep clean. Two 5-gallon fresh-water tanks supply enough water for up to 70 hand washings and two 7½-gallon waste-water tanks keep soiled water safely contained.

When Soap and Water Aren’t Practical

Sometimes soap-and-water handwashing just isn’t a realistic option. When people are in a rush, space is limited, or paper towel waste handling isn't possible, it’s still essential that staff and customers have access to a convenient way to protect themselves and each other. Hand sanitizer can literally be a life saver. NewAge Industrial developed the foot-activated sanitation stand for touchless hand sanitizing. This free-standing rust-proof aluminum station holds a standard 1-gallon plastic pump container that can be easily moved to high-traffic areas. Four rubber feet provide stability and protect flooring, while an adjustable bottle holder can be moved in ½" increments to fit the sanitizer bottle.
